An IBM marketing executive and Oxford University researcher is to become the top education official in Aberdeen. Abigail Tierney, the new corporate director for strategic services, will cover education, social work, housing and economic development.
Aberdeen advertised for “charismatic and innovative” leaders to head a smaller core of senior staff as it decentralises to three neighbourhood levels. The number of directors has been cut from 10 to six and John Stodter, corporate director for learning and leisure, declined to apply for the rejigged post.
Dr Tierney has been a researcher at Said Business School at Oxford University and has worked extensively in the United States.
