Raising funding levels in low-spending English education authorities to meet the national average would cost pound;511 million, Ms Morris said. The estimate was revealed in response to a question by Anne Campbell, who is MP for Cambridge - - an area which spends well below the national average per puil on education.

In a separate answer to Conservative spokeswoman, Theresa May, David Blunkett, Education Secretary, revealed that the Government has already allocated all but pound;25m of the pound;837m increase in England’s schools budget, announced by Chancellor Gordon Brown last month.
