PARENTS sending their children to the Government’s new National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth this summer will have to pay up to pound;1,000, it was announced this week. In 2004, the full fees for the three-week course at the Warwick University-based academy will rise to pound;1,700.

This year at least 60 per cent of pupils are expected to qualify for subsidies and 15 per cent will pay no fees at all. The academy is offering places for 900 children this summer after last year’s free pilot summer schools.
