Council reforms

The Archbishop of Canterbury has attacked Government proposals to abolish local authority committees, including those administering education.

The proposals form part of a planned overhaul of local government by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions. The reforms would concentrate council decisions into the hands of a small executive group.

Church school representatives fear losing their voting rights.
