The General Teaching Council for England has read the riot act to its council members, saying they should act in the best interests of the council and not in their own, or that of a third party.

The 64 elected members and nominees were sent a lawyer’s letter advising them of their duties after the second biggest teaching union, the NASUWT, told its members not to vote in elections for chairman and vice-chairman.
