YOUR front-page article on the possible redundancy for staff of grant-maintained schools failed to highlight a gross injustice.

Owing to a flaw in the Fair Funding consultation process local authorities are funding these cuts in former GM schools. What this, in reality, means is that those schools that have not benefited from the additional GM funds are now having to pay for the consequences of the GM era.

My GM colleagues assure me that this year’s difficulties will only exacerbate a greater problem for funding in April 2000, when there will then be no transition arrangements.
