More than 380,000 pupils are getting ready to do some stellar learning this afternoon - when astronaut Tim Peake links up with TES to lead a lesson from the International Space Station.

Major Peake is the first British astronaut to be selected by the European Space Agency to work on the ISS. The TES Cosmic Classroom event has sparked a huge amount of interest with more than 10,000 schools registered to watch the live stream of the event on the TES website.

More than 7,000 video questions have been submitted by pupils. Major Peake will be answering some of those questions as well as demonstrating a number of science activities which students will be able to copy from their classrooms.

A special event to mark the link-up will be taking place at the World Museum in Liverpool where space medicine scientist and television personality Dr Kevin Fong will be leading science activities for pupils from 11 schools. They will have travelled from Swansea, Grimsby, York, Tunbridge Wells, Battersea in London, Cumbria, Hartlepool, Essex, Cheshire, Sheffield and the Isle of Wight to be there today.

The programme begins at 2pm with a live broadcast presented by Dr Kevin Fong and the live link to Major Peake will be at 2.30pm.

Watch Major Peake’s lesson here, where there are also links to resources. Join in on twitter at #cosmicclassroom.

Please note: due to the nature of life on the ISS, the event is subject to change at very short notice.
