The Historical Association has organised a city weekend in Valletta, Malta, February 17-20. Cost: pound;450. It also organises overseas tours accompanied by knowledgeable guides. Forthcoming tours include: Old Castile, April 21-29; both sides of the Tees, May 11-28; Ile de France, August 31-September 6; Split and Dubrovnik, September 26-October 4.

Stands for Education is running a course for KS3 teachers in Nottingham, November 18, and London, November 19, exploring how to make history assessment effective, manageable and meaningful for teachers and pupils.

Also scheduled is a course on creating an exciting, engaging and challenging GCSE history course. Venues: Birmingham, November 16, London, November 17, and Manchester, November 30. Fee per course: pound;225 plus VAT.
