Critical view

Assessment is a loaded term for teachers, a turn-off or turn-on depending on who's using it. Which is why it's worth a mouse-trip to the Icritique website to see a radical, experimental 21st-century approach. The brainchild of Steve O'Hear, it is a closed online community (free subscription) in which students and teachers can put up their digital media work which they can then "critique" - comments can be posted and organised and can be shared with other schools. More than 600 A-level media studies students and staff at Long Road 6th Form College, Cambridge, used the service to discuss around 100 short pieces of digital video work. Icritique offers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an imaginative project and help shape it.
