FROM culture to better counting, Renfrewshire is bringing experience of the arts and sport to improving standards in the academic curriculum. A “Culture Counts” strategy as part of a pound;1.2 million bid to the Lottery’s New Opportunities Fund has been approved by the council’s educatio and leisure committee.
Part of the emphasis is on raising achievement among boys. A series of seminars with educational consultants suggested that skills and confidence acquired through making music, dancing or sport translate into greater success in the classroom.
