A combination of massive cuts to higher education, unlimited tuition fees and increased pension contributions could sound the death knell for teacher recruitment.

Courtesy of lords Hutton and Browne, any student thinking of becoming a teacher will face massive debts and pension contributions, taking large chunks out of their salaries, which will be frozen for the next two years at least.

After these changes, why would the brightest want to study in this country, let alone become a teacher?
