Volunteers are wanted to get on their bikes and cycle the 500 kilometres along the banks of the Nile from Luxor to Aswan (and back again) between March 22-30 or November 30-December 7 1997, to raise money for Mencap.

There will be stop-offs in the Valley of the Kings and each night cyclists will sleep in a luxury cruise ship. All flights, food, mountain bikes and accommodation will be provided for Pounds 200, but Mencap asks a minimum sponsorship in return. Proceeds will go to the Mencap Jubilee Appeal for a new family adviser and nationwide computerised information service. Details: Nile Bike Ride organiser, tel: 0171 454 0454.
