This weekend is the 60th anniversary of D-Day, when thousands of Allied troops landed on French soil at the start of the campaign to liberate Europe from Nazi occupation. To commemorate the occasion, The TES is giving away four special edition DVDs of a classic Hollywood take on the battle for the Normandy beaches. The Longest Day, recently released to buy by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, is an action-packed epic with a cast list that reads like a who’s who of the 1960s film world, including John Wayne, Richard Burton, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Robert Ryan and a youthful Sean Connery.

Darryl Zanuck ‘s double Oscar-winning film has lost none of its edge-of-the-seat appeal since its release in 1962, dramatising the preparations, military mistakes and random events that determined the outcome of the titanic battle.

As well as the three-hour film, the two-disc package includes a 12-page commemorative booklet plus two fascinating documentaries focusing on the making of the movie and on D-Day itself. For a chance of winning, send your name and address on a postcard or by email to the address on the right marked Longest Day offer. The first four entries drawn on June 10 will win.
