Daily worship review is not pre-determined

Collective Worship Reviewed is funded by two educational trusts. All Saints and St Gabriel’s. Delegates from the teaching profession, education organisations and faith communities including the churches will be attending three conferences during 1997.
Their task is to consult widely on collective worship, both within their own organisations and with other similar groups, and to report their findings within the conferences. All three conferences will be chaired by Professor Desmond Rea, chairman of the Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessments.
The outcome certainly is not pre-determined by the sponsoring organisations (as the TES article implied). If the consultations reveal consensus, that will be reported fully in the post-conference document. If not, the final report will spell out the areas of difference.
The RE Council, founded more than 20 years ago, is composed of representatives of professional RE teacher organisations and a wide range of faiths. The Inter-Faith Network for the UK was initiated in 1987 to encourage and support dialogue at all levels between the different faith communities in Britain.
