Dame Asha Khemka has stepped down from the Institute for Apprenticeships (IfA) board, it has confirmed.

Earlier this month, Dame Asha resigned as principal and chief executive of West Nottinghamshire College after 12 years at the helm. She had been among the highest paid principals in England. In 2016-17, she received a remuneration package of £262,000.

In September, the college was issued with a financial notice to improve after requesting exceptional financial support. It subsequently revealed that it had been given a loan of £2.1 million, and had entered FE commissioner intervention.

‘An honour and privilege’

In a statement, Dame Asha, who joined the board when it was set up in 2017, said: “It has been an honour and privilege to serve on the IfA board. However, considering I am no longer a serving principal, I have decided to step down from the board. I convey my best wishes to the Institute.”

IfA chair Antony Jenkins said: “Dame Asha has been a highly valued member of our board. I would also like to thank her for the time and effort she has dedicated to chairing the quality assurance committee. We wish her all the best for the future.”

Earlier this week, West Nottinghamshire College announced its new interim CEO as former Salford City College principal Martin Sim.
