THE Government plans a recruitment drive for trained play-workers and nursery nurses to staff the growing number of after-school clubs and day-care facilities.

Anne Longfield, director of Kids’ Club Network, says demand has increased because of the success of the national child-care strategy. Fro next year, there will be 4,000 new clubs, requiring 15,000 staff.

The Early Years National Training Organisation is

developing national standards for child-care workers. It says

it particularly wants to attract more men and people from

ethnic minorities into such jobs.
