THE charity, Defeating Deafness, says that more than half of

children with hearing difficulties are missed by current screening techniques.

But, it says, the technology is available for all people to be tested at birh.

The otoaccoustical emissions test, costing pound;13, was recommended by the Medical Research Council for general use in 1997.
