A long-delayed private finance initiative deal, meant to unite a split-site school on a single campus, has finally been given the go-ahead. The Assembly government has released around pound;24 million in PFI credits to Bridgend council to pay for a new home for Maesteg comprehensive. The scheme, which will free the school’s current buildings for a new Welsh-medium comprehensive, was first mooted seven years ago (TES Cymru, May 5). Work is due to start next month, with the new school expected to accept pupils from September 2008.
