The Design Council will celebrate its 50th anniversary in December with a new remit, structure and strategy in place. The revamped Council aims to be the national authority for design, devising and influencing government, industry and other bodies on design policies.

As part of the reogranisation it has established its own Education and Training Foundation whose aim will be to ensure that design education is not confined to the classroom but will touch everybody from children to pensioners. It is developing a long-term strategy for design in education, training and continuous learning.

Evelyn Ryle, chief executive of the Foundation, says: “Our education remit has expanded dramatically and therefore demands new ways of working. The Foundation and its growing team of education specialists will champion the im-portance of design for everyone.”
