Bakebean, Black amp; Blum, bi-me, Block, and Bluecampervan are only a handful of the exhibitors scheduled to be showing - and selling - at next week's East London Design Show.

With products as diverse as glassware, furniture, jewellery, textiles, rugs, cutlery and lighting on offer, the show promises to be an ideal shop window to view the work of emerging design talent alongside some more established names.

The event is organised by glassmaker Della Tinsley and photographer Gideon Cleary. It began 10 years ago in Della Tinsley's Shoreditch workshop with 10 exhibitors. Next week, the gallery will be filled with around 120 stands.

So, what does the show have to offer students of art and design? Well for a start, it affords the opportunity to bridge the chasm between design in the classroom, which all students are familiar with, and the hard-nosed world of business and making a living. On top of that, nearly all the stands are staffed by the designers themselves, who will be happy to talk about their work.

There are also two free design seminars planned for Friday December 5. The first focuses on trend prediction. The second will be run by designer Ella Doran, who will be discussing her work with Portmeirion.
