There’s nothing like a bit of HMI-bashing. In fact there’s probably never been anything like the bashing John Black, EIS delegate from Aberdeenshire, delivered to conference - because it was all in Doric, delivered by Jockie Black in a fairmer’s bunnet.
The theme of his speech was that someone should be checking up and evaluating the HMIE inspectors who were so keen to evaluate Scottish schools. Or, as he put it: “It’s a’ very well them asking, ‘Foo are ye daein’?’ But fa’s askin’ ‘Foo are ye daein’ yersel’s?” Or as Bob McAlpine preferred to put it: “We have upped our standards - up yours.”
