Regular readers may recall the tale of the Sussex porkers getting fat on a diet of school dinner leftovers - helpings of which had mysteriously increased since new contractor CCG took over the county’s kitchens earlier this year. But no more. It’s diet time for the piggies since Farmer Fred Rumsey went public with his suggestion that his livestock were benefiting because the pupils were finding their new-style lunches less palatable than previously.
“They sent us a letter saying we were no longer needed,” explained Farmer Fred, stoically. It seems CCG were less than happy about the Rumsey interpretation of why his pigs were up to their ears in swill. But fear not. Hunger is not about to stalk the sty. Adds the farmer: “It makes no odds to us as we have lots of other places to collect food from. ”
