Michael Jackson’s gloves, Elton’s tiaras, Diana’s dresses - and now Chesley Sullenberger’s hat.

The man known as “Sully” to his friends is joining an illustrious list of celebrities whose possessions have been auctioned off - and this time schools are the winners.

Mr Sullenberger was the airline pilot whose forced landing in the Hudson River in New York, after a bird strike put the engines out of action, made him a national hero earlier this year.

He has already written an autobiography in the wake of the incident, and now he is auctioning off one of his hats on eBay to raise money for two schools in California.
