(Photograph) - John Murphy is just one of the many employees of Caterpillar, manufacturers of earth moving equipment, that have been making tracks towards formal recognition of their skills thanks to a partnership between the company and nearby North Warwickshire and Hinckley college. Around 350 workers have now gained NVQ level 2 awards in vehicle assembly and some have gone on to study for HNC. The scheme will feature in a seminar at the conference on Wednesday. Colin Jewitt, Caterpillar’s human resources manager, said: “We wanted to reignite people’s appetite for learning. Some of these people didn’t get any qualifications at school and had never done anything since.”
