* The dip in pupil progress at the beginning of secondary school coincides with a drop in quality of teaching in Year 7 compared to Year 6, an Office for Standards in Education report has found. Keith Lloyd, head of Ofsted’s primary division, said the lower proportion of good quality teaching in Year 7 could be due to the greater use of non-specialists.
