SPENDING on making mainstream schools accessible to disabled pupils has increased eight-fold since 1997, according to figures released by junior schools minister, Jacqui Smith.

She said that more tan 1,900 schools will benefit from this year’s pound;30 million School Access initiative budget. This compares to a budget of just pound;3.6m in 1997-8. Ms Smith was replying to Labour MP Ashok Kumar.
