SWITZERLAND: The Swiss canton of St Gallen is proposing to banish disruptive pupils to a special youth centre described by the country’s media as a “jail for schoolchildren”, and to bar them from their original school for good. The centre runs a strict daily regime from 7am to 1pm. Inmates are assessed each day: if they behave badly, they may have to forgo their monthly “outing” and pocket money.
Education chief Hans-Ulrich Stockling said parents who refuse contact with schools should be fined up to pound;400.
