Scuba diving, the cause celebre of the further education world, is back in colleges.
Courses in scuba are included in the latest Government list of those approved for public funding.
But diving for beginners - which caused a wave of protests that holiday watersports were being subsidised by the taxpayer - is still outlawed, the Further Education Funding Council said this week.
The only scuba courses to be approved were those needed for professionals to meet the Health and Safety Executive’s diving at work regulations, said FEFC spokesman Robin Newton-Syms.
