Don't remake the FE wheel

Like others in further education, I am appalled at the chief inspector's view that a new type of "vocational school" for 14 to 16-year-olds should be developed.

Already, there exists a whole sector of institutions that have both the plant and the expertise to continue to provide high-quality vocational education. The vast amount of resources that would be needed to develop new "vocational schools" might be far better spent strengthening already good FE colleges (albeit underfunded) and the relatively small number deemed unsatisfactory by Ofsted in its recent report, Why colleges fail.
