Those unreconstructed fundamentalists at the Scottish Association of Teachers of English Language and Literature probably don’t know it, but they have reason to be grateful to Sam Galbraith despite their ideological differences over Higher Still.

Like other bodies well acquainted with shoestrings, it has come up against inancial and organisational problems keeping in touch with its members.

The Government, however, is obligingly arranging for every teacher to have an individual e-mail address, thus making it easier and cheaper for the association to go about its business of subverting Government policy.

It’s a hard life.
