Double-edge sword

DAVID Blunkett's plan to close up to 70 under-performing schools (TES, March 3 ) is likely to frighten away the very teachers that such "challenging schools" would attract.

Be it the threat of the sword of Damocles or the blade of Blunett no sane teacher would apply for such a job.

In addition, accepting no excuses for failure will also accelerate the flight of people from the profession.
