Civil servants working in education have staged a one-day walkout over plans that could result in 250 redundancies. Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union went on strike at government offices in London, Sheffield, Runcorn and Darlington on Wednesday. The union represents around two-thirds of the 2,900-strong staff of both education departments. Meanwhile Unison, the biggest union for school support staff, voted against strike action, but said the Government was in the "last-chance saloon" over pay.
