We have never suggested that drugs education be taught in other subjects in a sensationalised way (TES, February 27).
Our new guidance provides information on how teachers can incorporate drugs education into classes across the curriculum.
However, we trust their judgment in deciding how to do this and have not suggested specific approaches.
A cross-curricular approach to drug education is nothing new. In fact, teachers have incorporated drugs education into other subject lessons for years.
We are committed to providing heads with tools to stop pupils taking drugs through a balance of firm prevention strategies and innovative educational ones.
