A new pack introducing children to the dangers of drugs has been published by the Lanarkshire Drugs Action Team and will be available to all UK schools. The pack, which was written by teachers for teachers, will form an important part of the personal and social education curriculum and will now be the main vehicle for drugs education in Lanarkshire schools.

“It acknowledges the need to expose pupils to the key facts and accurate, up-to-date information about the dangers of drugs and should facilitate constructive involvement by children and lead them to more informed choices,” sai Michael O’Neill, director of education for North Lanarkshire and chair of the Drugs Action Team sub-group which produced the pack.

The project received pound;50,000 from the Scottish Drugs Challenge Fund and was welcomed by Alistair Ramsay, director of Scotland Against Drugs, which administers the fund, saying: “It complements and enhances our own schools programme and, in particular, the primary school initiative.”
