The organisation, which is backed by all the political parties, is brokering a Pounds 1 million staff development project over three years to enhance the quality of drugs education for primary schools. It hopes to attract both private and public backing. The Inspectorate, Marks and Spencer and Scottish Power have already given support.
The funding will establish best practice and then offer further training to heads and class teachers so a whole-school approach can be delivered.
A pilot scheme will be run after Christmas in Argyll and Bute. All primary schools will receive a Quick Facts booklet setting out principles, issues, teaching methodologies, resources and contacts.
