Paintings by the Scottish artist who immortalised skelly-eyed, rough and ready children from the east end of Glasgow have gone on show at Stranraer Museum. Docu-menting Life, which runs until June 2, complements the colourful, accessible pictures of Joan Eardley, with photographs of the artist at work taken by Audrey Walker, a friend who lived in the Dumfries and Galloway area.

The exhibition features 23 paintings, ranging from her famous portraits of children - often with collaged walls shown in the background (pictured) - to the vivid seascapes of Kincardineshire where the artist, who died of cancer in 1963 aged 42, loved to work outside during stormy weather.

The museum is running art appreciation classes for P6-7 based on the exhibition.
