South Lanarkshire is claiming a first by aiming to have all children able to swim by the time they leave primary school.

The initiative, which will run in and out of term, was launched in Hamilton Water Palace last week.

It will involve all primary pupils from P5 and above, and coaching is targeted on non-swimmers and on children who need to improve their techniques.
