Early-years qualification jumble may be ended

GOVERNMENT plans to raise the quality of early-years teaching received a boost this week, with the launch of proposals for a new framework of qualifications and training.

The framework will offer would-be classroom assistants, playworkers, playscheme leaders, childminders, nursery nurses, scout and guide leaders, foster carers and early-years teachers a clear career path. The present system has been criticised as a “myriad jumble” of qualifications.

The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority’s proposals set out the qualifications needed for each role and describe how people can use previous training or work experience to boost their skills.
