He was talking about last Saturday’s London Festival of Education, where the excitement wasn’t just in the standing-room-only lectures but also on the web, where thousands of people were following #LFE15.

@Sue_Cowley summed up the spirit of the day when she tweeted: “My aim for my #LFE15 is to keep everyone so engaged they forget to tweet.” But she didn’t get her wish. When former England education secretary Estelle Morris told the event “Do I trust teachers? Yes. Do I trust all teachers, all of the time? No”, it was soon picked up by the Twittersphere. @loftybooks replied: “Estelle Morris doesn’t trust all teachers? Guess how we feel about politicians!”

Celebrated Finnish educationalist @pasi_sahlberg was another of the speakers but also found time to tweet: “How to build trust within the education system in England? Convert consequential inspection into support for a self-improving system.”

But it wasn’t all serious. Spoof account @Toryedumacation combined two Twitter sensations in this tweet: “No one at #LFE15 has explained what colour that bloody dress is yet. Pull your socks up, educationalists.”
