"Turnhouse Golf Club is fully aware of the importance of introducing youngsters to the game and we are delighted to be given this opportunity through the clubgolf initiative," says Iain Holt, the club's junior convenor.
"We have 12 fully trained level one coaches taking 36 children through a structured 15-week clubgolf programme. It is all about making sure the children enjoy themselves and learn the game in a safe environment."
Elizabeth Gordon, the headteacher at Gylemuir Primary, is enthusiastic about the programme. "The children are having a great deal of fun playing the game, meeting a new set of people, learning about etiquette and developing skills which will be part of a lifelong learning experience," she says.
In the west, Balfron Golf Club has introduced a similar scheme and invited pupils from Balfron, Buchlyvie, Fintry and Killearn primary schools to attend lessons at the club as part of the clubgolf strategy.
