Editor's Letter

Anyone cynical about the role of information and commun-ication tech-nology (ICT) in schools and colleges should take a very close look at this special issue of TES Online. They will find the hi-tech revolution is now taking a firm hold among teachers. They are discovering the importance of ICT for their students and for revitalising their own teaching.

We are celebrating the achievements of all the entrants to the Becta ICT in Practice Awards 2004, although we only have space here for the winners (others will be featured in future issues of TES Online and Teacher magazines). Congratulations to all those who took part. Please take a look at videos of the winners on our website (www.tes.co.ukictwinners).

Apologies for the absence of some regular Online columns this issue, but we had to make room for full awards coverage. Normal service will be resumed in the next Online. We were able to retain our Bigger Picture section, so enjoy a glimpse of the future of online assessment (p34) and remember to enter the TESToshiba competition for five Toshiba Portege A100 laptops (p28, 32).

The May 14 TES Online will be looking at digital creativity in the classroom, with a special focus on digital audio. Readers' suggestions are welcome.
