As a child, Philip Edwards had a suspicion that sheep could tell the time because they always knew when the chip shop would be open. And how did they know that it wasn’t worth making the trek down the hill on Sundays? Now his pupils at Cwmaber Junior are using their ICT skills (and a few bags of crisps) to make sense of the behaviour of a flock of jackdaws that you could set your clock by (page 20). Will the birds know when the school holiday starts? Perhaps they’ll be joining their seagull cousins at the seaside for a spot of observation of human behaviour on the beach, the subject of our Inside Story this week.

This is the last issue of TESTeacher this term but we’ll be back from September 6 with a weekly supply of ideas and tried and tested tips. Have a great summer.
