Beware the expert, according to Socrates: “Wisest is he that knows he does not know.” The tools of his trade were curiosity, open-mindedness and reasoned argument, and the Classical philosophers are the subject of our Inside Story (page 8).

Philosophy is the father of all scientific disciplines. Those of you cheering the end of the hay fever season may be less than enchanted by the beauty and complexity of the image on page 16. All I can say is: know your enemy. Pollen is amazing - and the stuff of life to plants.
