Sixty-two per cent of primary schools and 93 per cent of secondaries in England are now connected to the Internet, according to new government statistics. The figure for primaries this time last year was just 17 per cent, while the number of secondary schools is up by 10 per cent. Jacqui Smith, schools minister, said there was now one computer for every eight secondary pupils and one for every 13 primary pupils. Government spending on computers and related services for schools will total pound;241 million this year.
