Educational establishments in the UK are unprepared for emergencies.

Despite outdated guidance being prepared by the Department for Education and Skills, most schools have no plans above an evacuation for fires.

Events such as Dunblane, the London bombings and numerous stabbings in schools highlight the need for tested arrangements. An email petition has been submitted to Number 10 asking for legislation to be introduced and is pending approval. As public interest in this area is unfortunately high at the moment, I hope The TES will investigate this issue.
