CURFEWS FOR unruly children look set to be abandoned just one year after they were introduced. The law, which gives local authorities powers to ban under 10s from public places after 9pm, was heavily criticised by children’s groups.

Jack Straw, Home Secretary, announced he was giving a sympathetic hearing to demands from the police to raise the minimum age for curfew orders to 16 - bringing England and Wales into line with Scotland.
