The Royal Commonwealth Society, with National Express, is calling for schools to get involved in an online Jubilee time capsule. Some of the best contributions will be presented as a gift to the Queen during the Jubilee celebrations.

What is it?

Pupils are invited to select any date in the Queen’s reign to record for the capsule - either a day that is special within their own family or a major event in any of the Commonwealth countries. The submission can include video, photos and text, but must explain why the day is important to the pupil.

Memories already submitted include the day students from Hellesdon High School in Norwich organised a cake stall to raise awareness of male cancer and the day in 1955 when polio vaccinations were introduced. Pupils are encouraged to interview their families and community members as well as recording memories of their own.

What else?

The Royal Commonwealth Society has shared six lesson plans on TES Resources to guide and inspire pupils’ time capsule contributions.
