English language promotion fails

An attempt to promote the use of English at Dutch universities has backfired, according to a Delft University study. Science students got lower marks than colleagues receiving the same lectures in Dutch. Lecturers said English inhibited their expressiveness. The education ministry had promoted tuition in English because it would help students find work in the international marketplace.
