Alphabet paintings
Turn your drab classroom walls into murals of wonder and develop pupils’ vocabulary with Mike Wilkes’ alphabet paintings.
What is it?
Complex, composite pictures from Mike Wilkes (shared on TES Resources by naff). Each picture represents a letter of the alphabet and everything within it begins with that letter.
How can it be used?
Look at the picture and list words that the images could represent. There can be an element of competition - which group of pupils can find the most associated words? The exercise expands vocabulary and tests lateral thinking skills.
What next?
Pupils can make letter-themed collages along similar lines, to challenge peers and other classes. These also make good displays.
