The Great Reading Eggspedition
Help your pupils become to reading champions with the Mathletics, running from 26 April to 6 May.
What is it?
A free two-week literacy event. Key stage 1 and 2 pupils are invited to visit an online world to help them develop their reading, grammar and vocabulary while aiming to win the most golden eggs.
How does it work?
KS1 pupils can explore a map of stepping stones that reveal new reading and phonics lessons. In each lesson, pupils read an e-book and play games, collecting golden eggs for their efforts. After 10 lessons, pupils take part in a mastery quiz and claim their certificate.
KS2 pupils can visit an online Eggspress island divided into four areas: library, comprehension gym, stadium, and apartment and mall. Visiting the library, pupils can pick one of 600 fiction or non-fiction e-books, then practise their skills at the comprehension gym. Once they feel confident, pupils can enter the stadium to compete against others in spelling, grammar and vocabulary contests. Golden eggs won in the stadium can be spent in the mall on clothes for the pupils' avatars or furniture for their apartment.
Trophies will be awarded to the schools that earn the highest number of golden eggs over the two weeks.
